This farm villa project was about a fulfillment of one man’s dream, having a holiday villa in on a large plot of land he owned in retirement life. A farm house theme was conceptualized using elements such as a pitched ceiling, exposing the timber beams, timber finish to columns and white walls to set the tone of the backdrop, then carefully overlaying luxurious elements, lighting and materials to add depth to the overall look. The main colour scheme is monotone to create a modern, timeless and classic design. Individual pieces were then tasteful chosen to add interest and accented each space.

Once we decided to reveal the structural rhythm of the beams, the entire design philosophy shifted toward celebrating openness, honesty, and material integrity.The exposed beams create a strong axial direction that guides movement and draws the eye naturally through the living and kitchen areas. This visual framework encouraged us to keep the plan open and continuous, allowing light, proportion, and symmetry to take the lead. We designed the interiors to echo this architectural clarity—through vertical lines, refined paneling, and a calm, cohesive palette that amplifies the height of the space.The timber beams also introduced a tactile warmth, which shaped our material strategy. At the same time, the homeowners envisioned a space that offered modern luxury, refined detailing, and a sense of architectural grandeur. Blending the two became a natural design direction: a way to honor tradition while elevating everyday living.The farmhouse influence appears in the pitched ceiling, exposed timber beams, and the tactile material palette. These elements ground the home with a sense of authenticity and craftsmanship. To achieve harmony with modern luxury, we introduced clean lines, large open spaces, a muted tonal palette, and carefully curated finishes such as stone, metal accents, and custom millwork. Every rustic gesture was paired with a contemporary counterpart, ensuring neither style overpowered the other.Throughout the space, balance was the guiding principle. The beams create vertical drama, while the minimalist paneling and soft textures bring calm. One of the greatest challenges in Dream Villa Residential House was integrating the necessary mechanical systems without interrupting the purity of the pitched ceiling and exposed beam design. Because the ceiling structure was a focal architectural feature, any visible ducting or bulkheads would have compromised the elegance and spatial clarity we wanted to achieve.Our problem-solving process centered on three strategies:1. Re-routing systems into peripheral zonesWe worked closely with the MEP team to redistribute major mechanical lines into perimeter walls, vertical chases, and cabinetry zones. By shifting these systems away from the ceiling plane, we kept the roof structure visually uninterrupted.2. Designing concealed channels within structural elementsWhere routing through beams was unavoidable, we coordinated early with the structural engineer to create concealed cavities within beam casings. This allowed wiring and small conduits to pass through without altering the rhythm or proportions of the exposed timber framework.3. Integrating mechanical access into the interior languageInstead of adding obvious access panels, we designed them to blend into the wall paneling and millwork compositions. Their forms and finishes were aligned with the existing geometry so they became visually seamless.The final solution is a ceiling that maintains its sculptural presence while quietly accommodating modern mechanical needs. This integration preserves the atmosphere of openness and simplicity—allowing the pitched structure to remain the hero of the space, while all functional systems work invisibly in the background.

Stone flooring, timber details, soft upholstery, and paneling all fall within the same tonal family, ensuring every texture feels connected.This palette directly shaped our material and furnishing choices:Materials were selected for their tactile richness within the same tonal spectrum—matte stone, warm wood veneers, brushed metals, and fabric weaves that add depth without adding contrast.Furnishings were curated in layers of neutrals to maintain balance: soft grey sofas, muted blue accents, and natural wood surfaces echo the architectural tones.Decorative elements, such as florals and glassware, were used sparingly to add freshness while respecting the calm baseline of the space.Ultimately, the monotone approach allowed the home to feel both modern and timeless—elegant without excess, refined without rigidity. Their arrangement encourages natural circulation patterns and gently defines each area without interrupting openness.4. Aligning lighting to functional intentWe selected lighting types that correspond to each zone’s purpose: ambient lighting for the living space, task lighting for the kitchen, and warm, focused pendants for dining. This hierarchy of light creates psychological separation even when the space remains physically continuous.5. From the outset, we wanted this space to feel like a private sanctuary—one where the rhythms of nature could subtly define the atmosphere of daily living.This connection shaped our design decisions in several important ways:1. Framing nature as part of the interior experienceWe positioned the master bedroom to capture soft, filtered daylight and garden views from the moment one enters the space. The window placement and proportions were carefully calibrated to act as “living artwork,” allowing greenery and natural textures to visually extend the room.2. Creating a seamless threshold between indoors and outdoorsThe choice of materials—warm woods, muted textiles, and a neutral palette—was intentionally aligned with the garden’s tones. This continuity in color and texture dissolves the boundary between interior and exterior, making the space feel larger, calmer, and more connected to its surroundings.3. Prioritizing morning and evening light qualityBecause this is a retirement home for Mr. Chen, we focused on designing a soothing circadian rhythm. Soft morning sunlight, controlled with layered window treatments, sets a gentle tone for the day. The bar area in Dream Villa Residential House was intentionally introduced as a subtle yet refined contrast within the farmhouse-inspired architecture. When selecting materials for the Dream Villa Residential House, my approach was guided by two key principles: creating visual interest through texture and contrast, and maintaining a cohesive overall aesthetic.I began by defining the core material palette—typically grounded in natural, timeless materials such as wood, stone, and metal. From there, I explored variations in texture, finish, and tone to introduce layers of depth. For example, pairing a smooth, matte plaster wall with a subtly textured stone floor creates a tactile contrast that draws the eye without feeling disjointed.In terms of cohesion, I ensured that each material referenced elements elsewhere in the space. This could be through color undertones, grain patterns, or reflective qualities, so that even contrasting surfaces feel part of the same narrative.
