View Design DetailsThe spiral layout in the Simple Code IV Smartwatch Face is inspired by the desire to create a continuous, organic flow that guides the user’s eye naturally from the day mark to the time index. This design symbolizes time as a fluid, interconnected experience rather than a series of isolated moments. The spiral not only brings a unique visual structure but also enhances readability by aligning information in a sequential, intuitive manner.
The accent colors were carefully chosen to stand out against the subdued, neutral background, creating a focal point that quickly draws the user’s attention. Each color represents a different customization mode or theme, allowing users to personalize their experience. The vibrant colors enhance the user experience by improving readability and providing a refreshing aesthetic that keeps the interface visually engaging.
The evolution from Simple Code II to Simple Code IV was driven by user feedback and a commitment to minimalism. Previous iterations taught us the importance of clear, customizable, and user-centric design. With each iteration, we focused on reducing unnecessary details, sharpening visual clarity, and providing more control over personalization—features that are now core elements in Simple Code IV.
The dual-reading system combines traditional analog hands with a central digital counter to give users multiple ways to track seconds. This approach respects traditional timekeeping while embracing digital capabilities, offering a flexible experience for users who may prefer one method over the other. It was designed with accessibility in mind, ensuring users have an easy way to read seconds in any format they prefer.
Designing for both round and square formats required careful attention to proportionality and alignment. The interface elements in Simple Code IV are adaptively positioned to ensure each element maintains a balanced and centered appearance, regardless of the display shape. This flexibility was achieved through modular design principles that adjust to the constraints of different formats without losing aesthetic consistency.
Winning the Bronze A’ Design Award was a significant validation of our design approach and has motivated us to push boundaries in future projects.
