View Design DetailsTo achieve the balance between traditional Japanese and modern design in my AI Interior Concept Japanese Restaurant, I developed prompts in Midjourney that emphasized cultural and contemporary elements. I included descriptors such as interior of the Japanese restaurant, minimalism, simplicity, arch, stone.
One of the most surprising breakthroughs during the process was AI's ability to suggest unexpected material combinations and spatial arrangements that I hadn’t initially considered. For instance, Midjourney produced innovative ways to merge organic elements like stone and wood with modern minimalist arches, creating a unique harmony between tradition and modernity. The AI also inspired me to rethink lighting design, suggesting softer, layered approaches that enhanced the atmosphere of the space. These unexpected outputs sparked new ideas, making the process more dynamic and creatively enriching.
My background in interior design deeply influenced the crafting of prompts and selection of iterations. Visual literacy and design experience allowed me to navigate AI suggestions effectively, filtering out the noise and focusing on iterations that aligned with the project’s vision.
The AI-assisted approach significantly improved client consultation and concept approval by streamlining the visualization process. For example, using tools like Midjourney allowed me to quickly generate multiple iterations of design concepts based on client preferences, such as material choices or stylistic themes. This enabled real-time feedback and faster decision-making.
The biggest challenge was accurately translating my client's vision into clear, effective prompts while accounting for the AI's limitations in understanding spatial relationships. To address this, I broke the design into distinct visual and functional components, crafting detailed prompts for each aspect, such as materials, lighting, and style.
In developing the AI Interior Concept Japanese Restaurant Design, I created extensive chains of images to explore variations and identify the strongest outputs. This allowed me to filter out images with errors or inconsistencies. Using Midjourney’s refinement tools, I iteratively adjusted details and utilized functions like inpainting to correct unrealistic or misplaced objects and enhance design accuracy.

My advice to other designers is to view AI as a powerful tool that enhances creativity and streamlines the design process, not as a replacement for human designers. AI can make projects more efficient and user-friendly for clients, but the expertise and intuition of a designer remain essential. I believe AI is the future, and the sooner you start experimenting with these tools, the quicker you'll be able to integrate innovative solutions into your projects.
