Interview about Serum Cosmetics Packaging, winner of the A' Packaging Design Award 2024
Its visual symbolism with the grand prix flag communicates the speed and effectiveness of the product's anti-wrinkle action. The reflection of the power and speed of reconstructive abilities of the product on the human skin was the inspiration behind the visual design. To underline its capacity, the inspiration was the black and white checkered flag of the grand prix, marking the product's rapid launch at providing the skin with protection. The hardest part of the process was the collaboration with the printer, in order to achieve the emboss on the silver box.

View Design DetailsThe symbolism of the grand prix flag was incorporated to convey the sense of speed and efficiency that defines the Serum products. During the design process, we explored various textures and patterns, ultimately choosing the checkered pattern, which directly evokes movement and victory. The checkered pattern was added as an embossed design, creating a contemporary and striking effect.
The metallic texture and embossed checkered pattern required advanced production techniques. We worked closely with specialized printers who utilized thermography and precision embossing techniques. Multiple trials were conducted to ensure the balance between luxury and functionality was achieved.
The fact that the product targets dermatologists influenced the choice of durable, medical-grade materials that convey reliability. The aesthetic remained minimalist yet luxurious, with an emphasis on clarity and legible typography. Functional details, such as easy-to-read information, ensured immediate comprehension.
The packaging dimensions were carefully chosen to accommodate storage and transport needs. The height, width, and depth were designed to enhance ergonomics, while the precise geometry ensured that the products remain protected while being visually appealing.
George Ziakas played a crucial role in the design process, bringing his expertise in balancing luxury and scientific aesthetics. Together, we developed a clean yet impactful approach that reflects the uniqueness of the Serum products.
During brainstorming, we explored various concepts, including abstract patterns and monochromatic textures. The silver box with the checkered pattern was ultimately chosen for its unique ability to combine luxury with dynamic energy, providing a sense of speed and precision.
The design strategy focused on balancing comprehensive product information with visual simplicity. We used clean lines and colors that highlight the products without overshadowing the details, ensuring the packaging is both professional and visually appealing for medical practitioners.
To ensure consistency, we used the same base design while differentiating each product with unique colors and icons. This approach allows for easy identification of each serum without losing the unified identity of the range.
We believe the committee was impressed by the strong visual identity of the packaging, its sense of innovation, and the clear narrative conveyed through the design. The use of high-quality materials and attention to detail made the design stand out.
This experience enhanced our ability to merge visual elegance with professional communication. For future projects, we will continue to seek innovative solutions that serve both aesthetics and functionality, especially in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics sectors.
