Interview about Tunnelma CCT Led Lighting, winner of the A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award 2023
The company does about 500 lighting designs every year. Inspiration for development came during countless meetings with families while doing lighting design. Every situation is different and every room has different needs because of materials and textures. The product family was created to stop arguments about color temperature with customers and to provide high-quality (CRI98) LED lights for an affordable price range. Tunnelma CCT product family is designed to help installers and resellers to cut warehouse stock in half. It is Smart Home ready with support for Zigbee or DALI2.

View Design DetailsActually A lot. This product family is more about function rather than visuals. Desinging was all done funtionatily first, installation easyness second and visual looks third. By making lighting designs to different homes with our team, we get constant feedback of differemt needs from customers. That always effects on design.
As all graphical designers, artists and painters know, high quality lights are VERY important to make sure that colors are as intended. For painter ie. making art and then shipping it to customer to only realise that painting colors are not right when diplayed at location, makes it wrong for art and artist. We have been making high CRI products for long time and giving same option to consumer, not just professional, is consumer right. More high quality lights come to market, makes all win.
Products are function first and therefore full aluminum is used to make LED lights last long time. Good heat dissipation makes LED chip last up to 50% longer! That also makes it so that light does not need replacement for long time and its sustainable. Products are also designed to be commercially viable with mass production and all models share components as much as possible.
This is not something that we have thought. Light is always neutral, but then again because its CCT tunable its always as you choose it to be. You can be warm and romantic or cool and collected. You can express yourself freely.
DALI has been for long time in commercial go-to system with KNX. We just make sure our products are compatible with those systems. As for regular households, Zigbee is not new system and therefore tested and proven system without problems. When using wireless technologies, we can save a lot og money with less cables, but also give freedom to consumer how to install everything, because control buttons are installed to wall after paiting is done. In my vision ALL new residential should be wireless and 85% of homes/renovations we design,already is.
Firstly, know what you want Then I made short list of most important features When designing product, I also had to think multiple products, so I ahd to know what components can be shared with other models After that I always make samples and test them, get feedback from others. Make changes, then its ready for mass production.
Finnish style of construction has been always an issue. Low dropceilings needs special requirements and that was first thing, first technical detail I wanted to tackle. Same time 600Lumens came from typical Halogen bulb that I was replacing.
CCT tuning gives customer freedom to choose color and us more shelf space! Before customer had to know what they wanted when buying lights. Now you have freedom to change mind. And We dont have to stock soma many variants of same lights. One fits for all!
Again we come back to function first. I knew what were important for installation, what makes light fit and easy to install. That was on my list during design process. It still is on all products we make.
Im trying to harmonise even more my product line to make it so that all parts are interchangeable. We have added more products into this TUNNELMA prodctline. Led strips, Led Panels and Downlights.
