View Design DetailsThe spiral layout of Simple Code IV Rouge and Paon was a deliberate shift towards creating a more organic flow between time and date indicators. In Simple Code II, the focus was on linearity and symmetry, but with Simple Code IV, I wanted to embody a dynamic flow that mirrors the way we experience time—not as distinct units but as a continuous journey. This evolution reflects a broader intention to make the design more intuitive and engaging, allowing users to feel the connection between different time elements in a seamless, spiral visual.
The accent colors—Rouge (red) and Paon (blue)—were chosen for their high visibility and emotional impact. Red is traditionally associated with urgency and action, making it ideal for marking crucial information such as the date. Blue, on the other hand, evokes calmness and stability, perfectly aligning with timekeeping. The neutral background ensures the colors are striking but not overwhelming, drawing users’ attention to key data points while maintaining an overall minimalist aesthetic. This balance enhances readability and aligns with the user experience I envision: both engaging and serene.
Winning the A’ Design Award underscored the importance of versatility in design. Simple Code IV Rouge and Paon are crafted to maintain aesthetic harmony and functionality, whether on a round or square watch face. This is achieved through the central spiral layout, which naturally adapts to different formats, and the careful placement of time indicators along the circular path. The minimal design avoids crowding, allowing for an effortless visual transition across device shapes. This adaptability ensures that the design remains intuitive and appealing regardless of format.
The center display was reimagined to combine elegance with practicality, inspired by the need to make every element of the watch face multi-functional yet unobtrusive. The second counter adds a subtle, rhythmic element to the design, helping users keep time at a glance without overwhelming the interface. This feature is part of my broader philosophy of integrating movement into the design, creating a living, breathing interface that feels alive and responsive, rather than static.
Facer.io provided a flexible platform that allowed me to experiment with animations and interactivity, pushing the design beyond static visuals. It enabled real-time previews and a collaborative environment to test how different elements responded to user interactions. Facer’s community also offered valuable feedback, helping me refine elements like color contrast, iconography, and positioning. The platform’s capabilities inspired me to think beyond traditional layouts and explore more dynamic, user-centric designs.
With each iteration, my focus has increasingly shifted towards creating a balance between visual appeal and intuitive functionality. In earlier designs, I was more focused on aesthetics; however, Simple Code IV emphasizes usability without sacrificing design. I now prioritize the experience of the user, ensuring that each design element serves a purpose while contributing to an overall cohesive look. This evolution represents my commitment to minimalism that is not only visually pleasing but also purpose-driven.
