Interview about Colorful Villa, winner of the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award 2022
This project was designed for three women as the protagonists. It is a space where a mother and three daughters have closer connection, and a place where the family gather for relaxing and joyful holiday, besides, it is also a place where the family's spiritual sustenance and family emotional cohesion are located. Therefore, for this project, the designer used warm and lively colors, and soft curved lines throughout the entire space to emphasize the gentleness and gracefulness of women, creating a style that is different from ordinary homes.

This scene deeply touched me and made me realize that design is not only the planning of space, but also the resonance of emotions and the expression of life. .I started thinking about how to translate this sense of pure joy into an overall design language, with hues that not only embody a child’s carefreeness but also breathe life into each space.In addition, the line structure in the design adds to the fashion of the space. The light and round curves are like candy, bringing a free and brisk body and a pleasant living environment.In the end, this design draws inspiration from the moment when a child eats a lollipop and forms a comprehensive design language to create a happy space full of love and innocence, a haven for happiness and relaxation in a short period of time.
In the colorful design, the use of curved lines and warm colors indeed creates a unique feminine color, surrounded by a warm embrace.In terms of tones, we chose soft pinks, creams and light blues. These colors not only bring visual effects, but also make the space more refined and non-glaring, creating a warm atmosphere that the occupants can enjoy. In the selection of materials, we used naturally moisturizing and soft fabrics, such as cotton. These materials are not only pleasant to the touch, but also visually add a sense of playfulness and enhance the affinity of the space. For the practicality of the design, we added some interesting decorations, such as colorful hanging paintings and unique ornaments. These elements make the space full of vitality and interest.Through the ingenious combination of these design elements and materials, Funful has successfully found a delicate balance between sophistication and playfulness, creating a resort space that is both comfortable and full of feminine charm, allowing visitors to easily enjoy every moment of life.
In the colorful design, the unique dynamics of the three women as protagonists profoundly influenced our space planning decisions and the creation of emotional resonance, and provided them with a pleasant vacation experience.First of all, in terms of space planning, we paid special attention to functionality and flexibility to provide solutions for their different activity needs during their vacation.Secondly, we cleverly paired colors and textures in each room to express their respective emotional characteristics. Living environment, for example, in order to express their lively character, some of us use bright colors in the space to encourage them to enjoy the fun in life.Through this female-centered design thinking, we successfully created emotional resonance in the space, making the residents feel comfortable, warm and happy, allowing them to find spiritual sustenance and happiness in life here.
In the colorful design, we use the diverse colors and color palette of terrazzo to create a unique personality for each space, while ensuring the unity, harmony and rich-layered living environment of the overall residence.The choice of terrazzo is the core of this design, creating a calm and comfortable resting environment, allowing residents to find a haven of relaxation in their busy lives.In addition to terrazzo, we also integrated fair-faced concrete, iron paint and paints of various colors. The layout of these materials forms a unified, balanced and richly varied overall effect. It enhances the attractiveness of the space and also injects the cultural distribution of the city into the design.During the design process, we paid special attention to the interaction between materials, striving to maintain a unique style for each space while forming a harmonious sense of unity with the entire house. Colorful becomes a home full of vitality and emotional resonance, allowing residents to enjoy an unparalleled pleasure experience.
In designing Colorful as a holiday space, the intended use profoundly influenced our strategy, particularly in terms of promoting family connections and providing spaces for personal relaxation.First, the common areas are designed to encourage interaction between family members. All enjoying each other's company during the holidays.Secondly, taking into account the final occupant’s need for independent space, we chose soft tones and comfortable materials in the design of the bedroom to create a peaceful haven where the occupants can obtain inner peace and recharge at any time.In addition, the flexible space configuration allows residents to change the use of the space at will according to their needs, such as converting the entertainment area into a place for yoga or meditation, which enhances the flexibility and coordination of the space.Overall, designing colorful spaces as vacation spaces not only allows us to incorporate more creativity and flexibility, but also caters to the needs of family members, creating an ideal place that is both dynamic and promotes personal recuperation.
In transforming a simple lollipop into the architectural narrative of a colorful villa, we faced many challenges, particularly in ensuring that the living spaces for residents remained sophisticated and functional while remaining playful.First of all, how to transform the childlike lollipop elements into the living space of mature women is a major challenge for our design. This requires us to maintain a balance in the selection of colors and materials, which not only expresses a strong character, but also conveys a sense of mature elegance, making the space more attractive and layered.Secondly, functional considerations were also an important landscape challenge to make it both beautiful and functional.In addition, we also need to consider the needs of multiple members and create a balance between public spaces that promote family interaction and related areas that protect personal privacy. My studies in Argentina had an inevitable impact on the design of Colorful Villa, especially the combination of cultural fusion and design elements, which enabled me to create a space that is both dynamic and culturally rich.First of all, the Argentinian design style combines European elegance with South American enthusiasm, which gave me a new understanding of the use of color and spatial layout. This meets the needs of customers and brings warmth and joy to the family.Secondly, the materials and craftsmanship I was exposed to in Argentina also influenced my design choices. I learned about various materials, such as terrazzo, glass and wood, which not only beautify the space but also enhance the flexibility of its use.Finally, my understanding of Eastern culture makes me pay more attention to the emotional expression and spiritual satisfaction of space. The interaction between them allows everyone to find their own place in this colorful space.Overall, the international background provided rich inspiration for the design of my colorful villa, allowing me to achieve a harmonious balance between Eastern and Western design elements to create a unique and diverse holiday space.
Colorful was completed in January 2022 and won the "Bronze Design Award". This international recognition had an inevitable impact on my spatial vision in challenging traditional residential design norms.Winning the award is not only an affirmation of my design concept, but also a sign of encouragement for me to break through conventions.
