Interview about Kallucci Boot 3D Key Art, winner of the A' Computer Graphics, 3D Modeling, Texturing, and Rendering Design Award 2021
The main idea of the designer was bring through simple elements, such as rocks, the aspect of durability and resistance that the product needed, directly approaching its use and the customers lifestyle. The added crystals serve to bring a highlight to the main object, giving a mystical air arousing the curiosity of potential customers.

View Design DetailsDue the strong caracteristic of the rock we can bring the main aspect of the product, the durability, at the same time we use the product on a environment that resembles the environmente which it's made for. The crystals bring atention the the break of the silhouette and the colors, that's stands out.
It's very hard to resemble the real product without the use of the scanning. The hardest part it's to not make look like a CAD file, and find the best balance between realism and perfection. The experience helped a lot to understand what are the aspects that are important to keep and what things we can correct, like we usualy do on photo retouch.
I always use this strategy to convey the ideal feeling to customers. I believe that the image need to be self explanatory at some point, even if the concept is something more abstract. The complex thing is to understand how far we can go on the idea, without leaving the produc visualization aside.
The idea was to use a element to break out the silhouette, in contrast with the rocks, attracting the views to see the whole image. At the same time they direct the look to the product.
These are two complex disciplines apart, about the product itself it's more about understanding how the product is made and the behavior of each material, like leather, rubber and etc. About the concept is more about searching for references and composition study.
I had many years working as Art Director in local agencies, so it helped me to understand how to use certain elements and visual choices to make the product stand out for the specific client that i need to reach, not leaving the product visualization aside.
I had a lot of photograpy experience, while working on design studios. So this working background made me understand better the lights and also the best lens to use on each situation. On this case i wanted to use a more dramatic light on the concept. On the textures i was focused on mimic the real world materials, without deviations.
I usually try to understand the media that the work will be used mostly, do it leads to chose between a more comples or less complex visuals, and how much time the customer have on each media to absorv the information. O this case i wanted a more straight forward concept.
It was very good, a lot of repercussion, a lot of people started to get the work as reference and reach me out for doing something for their brands, leading to new works.
I think that the footwear industry have benefited a lot for the use of 3D images, it makes everything possible. With the use of the 3D you have more lot control over the product aspect and since it's done it's easier to produce new stuff. And will still be used for a long time, even with the AI, because the AI at this moment can't replicate the product exactly as it is in real word.
